Political Asylum

HaleyNelson & Heilbrun, LLP has significant experience and expertise in asylum, withholding of removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture.  We have helped numerous clients and their families from all over the world win their right to live safely in the United States through asylum. Our attorneys serve as mentors with a number of community legal organizations in their pro bono asylum programs as well as train and present extensively on the topic of asylum.

If you (your family member, friend or loved one) have been harmed, or are genuinely are afraid of being harmed if they return to their country of birth, asylum may be available to you whether or not you are in legal status here, and even if you have been in the United States for over one year. We will provide you an honest assessment of your specific circumstances to help you make the best decision about how to move forward.

If granted asylum, you can: legally work in the U.S; petition to bring their family to the U.S., (with some limitations); and eventually file for lawful permanent residency and naturalization, if certain conditions are met.
